Did I also mention eircom bought me booze? Did I also mention I think Eamon Ryan rocks? And Fine Gael? Gimme me 50 quid and I’ll link to you. It’s all Michele Neylon’s fault. He nominated me. Thanks Dude, appreciated....

Back to Inishmore for one. On a cycle around (part of) the island, we came across this dock area for fishing boats. Who can resist fishing nets and piles of worn rope? Not me anyway. Taken back in August. Seems like so much has happened since then. Well, so much has happened since then!...

So now I need some teacher training, to become a teacher and all!
There are a few courses around Ireland that will train you to become a teacher. The main 4 are through the National University of Ireland. Cork (UCC), Galway (NUIG), Maynooth (NUIM) and Dublin (UCD). DCU and Trinity (TCD) also run courses and Limerick (UL) does a nice Business Teacher course too.
So to apply for one the NUI courses, you have to go through a similar process to that of the CAO, through PAC (Postgratuate Applications Centre). You apply for an application form pack and receive it in the post. No online applications here, these guys want to keep it old school!
Be warned, the closing date for entry into the 2009/10 course is December 1st 2008! A whole 9 months before hand.

Some people are searching for elderly hand jobs and are ending up here. Now we all have our little kinks, but seriously, elderly hand jobs? Are we talking 65 year old ones or ones where the participant is about 97 and 20 minutes away from a coffin?Christ!!!!!...

Rick spotted this. The Diary of The Irish Apprentice Secretary.
Found via Chris‘ Twitter: So the British Nutter Party’s membership list got leaked and there’s been much fun on the Internet as a result and someone has gone as far as doing a Google Maps Mashup so you can know how far away you are from a rightwing psychopath. Please note the nearest nutjob might actually be behind you. So we have the BNP version of lolcats too of course.

Recently I got the opportunity to catch up with an old school friend I hadn’t seen in waaaaay too long, thanks to FaceBook we got back in touch and he asked me to take part in the making of a music video. I was only too happy to get involved and the result is a great looking video promo for Nassau’s ‘Funderland Fan’ directed by Mairtin de Barra - check it out, I’m the one with the knife

Rather that issuing take down notices, the lads of Monty Python created their own YouTube channel. Smart guys. Here is their blurb:
For 3 years you YouTubers have been ripping us off, taking tens of thousands of our videos and putting them on YouTube. Now the tables are turned. It’s time for us to take matters into our own hands.
We know who you are, we know where you live and we could come after you in ways too horrible to tell. But being the extraordinarily nice chaps we are, we’ve figured a better way to get our own back: We’ve launched our own Monty Python channel on YouTube.
No more of those crap quality videos you’ve been posting. We’re giving you the real thing - HQ videos delivered straight from our vault.
What’s more, we’re taking our...

Windsor Castle, as seen from the pavement outside with benches going off into the distance like a moat stopping the tourists trampling on the lawn.
More corrupted images this evening and a few I didn’t want to lose including family shots and a couple of long exposure night scene. Email sent off to Warehouseexpress looking for a replacement. Will keep you posted.

You eagle-eyed West Cork drivers may have noticed a big new sign on the back of one of the units behind Great Gas on the Bandon Bypass. It is the retail/warehouse outlet of newly launched Curious Wines. Mike Kane, the owner, has put together a brilliant selection of wines which are not your usual supermarket generic stuff.
Their web-site has just gone live and it’s a corker (boom! boom!). Another stunning creation by the shockingly talented Ms Dent. I think it’s probably the best looking and most effective wine web-site in the country and puts the major chains to shame. The wine value is also fantastic and you really should buy by the case and save even more.
I’m just looking forward to the tastings that Mike has planned since I’ll be able to walk to them!...
Sitting in Cafe Martinelli about to have a mocha in cold dry Budapest.
Interesting city - modern buildings and restored buildings jostle with ramshackle buildings that haven't been looked after since Communist days.
Modern trams run beside ancient tarta trams and rusty metro trains run through refurbished stations.
Marks and Spencer is near Saturn. Tesco, Cora and Auchan fight it out for business.
Seatbelts don't seem to be used. Drivers seem mad. Traffic police patrol tram junctions in the morning (an idea for Dublin maybe ?). Its like home with the poor information at tram/bus stops.
Prices ? Beer last night was around 3.50 for half a litre. Tram tickets are just over 1euro and just like home if you change tram or bus you have to buy a new one. This mocha is around 2.10 and...

Chartered accountant Kieran O'Donnell T.D., Willie O'Dea's gift to the Fine Gael parliamentary party, has been expressing himself on the banking crisis. I am going to criticise Mr O'Donnell below, but it is only fair to observe that he is making the best of his opportunities, and that he is clearly not lacking in either political perspicacity or expertise in financial matters. His questions to the Financial Regulator last month were often intelligent and incisive, even if the politician in him was winning out over the financial analyst, in my humble opinion. However, his political side seemed to be hold pretty monopolistic sway for the entire of his contribution to the George Hook programme last night. In his view - which in essence is not too different to views also expressed by Henry...

Song of Amhairghin.I am the self establishedIn the heart of all contingent beings; Also, I am the beginning, middle and endOf all contingent beings. Rig-VedaThe Poet WB Yeats once remarked that up until the battle of the Boyne Ireland belonged to Asia. A nineteenth century scholar by the name of Charles Mackay wrote an etymological dictionary of Gaelic in which he surmised that the origin of the word Asia itself could be derived from the old Irish ais meaning back and ia meaning country or land, Asia being the ‘back land’, the land from which we are derived. I do not wish to go into the relative merits or validity of Mackay’s linguistic...
