Pretty amazing advertising for Warioland on the Wii featured on Youtube. No doubt this advert cost a pretty penny or three to piece together. It’s a bit unfortunate that the actual game doesn’t excite as much as the advert. Am I just getting old?

James has launched Fluffylinkulator, a Google Raid Inclusion Tool to compete with Omniserve’s tool of the same name. Flufflinkulator harnesses the Google technology available at google.com/addurl while Omniserver’s tool is a blog post. Yes, a blog post.
Fluffylinkulator is a parody of a much touted feature offered by Omniserve by which they write a blog post that includes a link to their client site.
Eoin Costello states that their Google Rapid Inclussion Tool offers…
…free entry of their new site in our blog which, thanks to being indexed every couple of minutes by Google, ensures that the customer’s name and primary product area appears in Google organic results very quickly. This free post also includes a link to the customer’s site and we have...

Crewger is an organisation dedicated to the advancement of the Irish film community by facilitating the production, promotion and exhibition of original content by film-makers of all ages and backgrounds working in Ireland today.
Crewger is very much a social network for those involved or wanting to get involved in the Irish Film Industry. The site offers discussion forums, user profiles, a directory of users with their qualifications/interests listed and site even offers its users a blog-type-platform for article publication.
One such article is titled ‘The Lessons of In Bruges‘ and is a very enjoyable analysis of Colin Farrel’s performance, the national and international cultural side of the movie and of course the direction.
While I like the idea behind the site and...

37 Signals are soon to drop IE6 from their supported browser range. IE6 has long being the most common browser on the web but with the birth of IE7/8, the growth of Firefox and the increased migration from Windows in OS X has since seen the dinosaur that is IE6 edge closer to extinction.
The Internet Explorer 6 browser was released back in 2001, and Internet Explorer 7, the replacement, was released nearly two years ago in 2006. Modern web browsers such as IE 7, Firefox, and Safari provide significantly better online experiences. Since IE 6 usage has finally dipped below a small minority threshold of our customers, it’s time to finally move beyond IE 6.
IE 6 is a last-generation browser. This means that IE 6 can’t provide the same web experience that modern browsers can....

There have been a rake of bugs, performance issues and down time for Netvibes ever since the launch of their Ginger release. I’m no longer happy with Netvibes as my feed reader.
They even added a Google search bar to their header last week. What’s that about? I know what Google is. I know how to get to Google.com. I know how to search. I don’t need a Google search within my feed reader. Netvibes claimed it was a feature longed for by its users but the comments on their blog post about it are very negative. Where are Netvibes pulling these ridiculous features from? Obviously they’re trying to get paid but it’s at the expense of users. Users like me who are now looking for an alternative.
Anyway. I’m looking for a new feed reader. I quite like Google...

I often enter my email when asked if I want an invite to a beta release of social networks, music sites, etc… A few weeks ago I applied for the Strands.com beta. This evening I received my email invite (first two people to leave a comment each get invites).
In the time that has passed between applying for and receiving my invite I have completely forgotten what Strands is all about.
Their homepage is a giant empty space of information too. I have being on Strands now for about a hour and I haven’t received any overview information to my personal email or to my Strands inbox. When I logged in for the first time I didn’t receive any introductory piece about what the site was about or how to use it. The below screenshot is the landing page you are redirected to...

Check out ScrnShots. Chris linked me to this design-centric website this afternoon. The site explains that ScrnShots…
…. is the best way to take and share screenshots of web and screen based design. Upload as many screenshots as you want, embed them in your blog, discuss them with your contacts and become a better designer!
The site enables designers to share their creations and receive feedback and/or criticism about their work. Some of the work which has been uploaded so far is quite impressive. Such as..
Quite a good resource if you are looking for some design inspiration....

I’ll be cheering on Russia propping up against the bar on Thursday night while I attend CrunchLudd. CrunchLudd is the one night only union of TechLudd and TechCrunch UK. The event is a get together of Irish software startups and is being held at 4 Dame Lane in Dublin. Proceedings kick of at 7PM.
Cad é TechLudd?
TechLudd is a free monthly social networking event for Irish start-ups and those interested in them, from founders to funders to fans.
TechLudd was founded on the idea of nurturing a network around start-ups, building the same kind of ecosystem that the Paddy’s Valley crew discovered helped nurture entrepreneurs with access, funding, contacts and communication on their trip to Silicon Valley in December 07.
If you’re interested in attending, you need to register...

…the lack of a search box on Google’s Custom Search Documentation website.
If only there was a quick way to search through all of that documentation, eh lads?
Any ideas on how a search box can be implemented? Maybe Google should ask these guys about putting a search box on their CSE page....

So a few months ago Microsoft invest a few dollars in Facebook.
It’s a bit of an irony then that Facebook don’t have Internet Explorer listed as a ‘cool’ browser.
The browser wars have never been tighter and I’m sure MS would prefer if one of their partners didn’t exclude them from a list which features their main rivals....

This post is an experimental post which is aimed at examining the influence of inbound links on a website. BifSniff is a playground for me, and where I post all my fun finds on the internet as well as the odd film review etc, but it’s also a place where I get to test out some WordPress theories I have and that kind of thing, because my ‘day job’ is as web designer and all the stuff that goes with web design, like SEO and all that jazz.
What I’m doing with this post is examining the impact of a single link with specific anchor text in it from a site with reasonably good ‘Google-Juice’. That’s why I’m linking to another site of mine using the phrase web design cork.
The site I’m linking to has no other inbound links to speak of, and I...

As the title suggests, I’ll be heading to CreativeCamp this Saturday in Kilkenny!
CreativeCamp is pretty much a BarCamp but in disguise. I have previously attended two, Cork & Waterford, and both were excellently run, had excellent speakers and were well worth the visit. This week’s camp should be no different.
Ken, Keith and Tom are the organisers and if the speakers can live up to the excellent attention and effort which the guys have put into promoting CreativeCamp via the blog, then there is no doubt the event will be a success.
The guys have
posted maps
organised car pools
done pretty pie charts
posted images of the event rooms
and of course, they have listed the schedule
That’s how this type of thing should be done.
Some of those giving talks are:
Jan...

My RSS reader of choice, Netvibes, is soon to release their Ginger version. After taking a quick look at their impressive promotion page, Ginger is set to merge all your social networking faces into a single entity…, or so the marketing ‘guff’ says. How they do that successfully remains to be seen.
Many sites interact with APIs and the like to bring elements of the interface and some level of interaction to the forefront. So that’s nothing new. But Netvibes seem to doing a bit of a song and a dance about Ginger… What are they doing different?
I have received my invitation code and I’m waiting for my upgrade to be complete. The screenshots and videos which are available on the promo Ginger page look very impressive. Hopefully I will know by tomorrow if...

I steered clear from joining some of the messaging sites which sprang up in last 18 months or so. Nearly.
Jaiku is an excellent service. It has superior functionality to Twitter and to a lesser extent, Pownce. It’s UI is the most charming too when compared to Twitter/Pownce, in particular to Twitter. I still don’t how to use Twitter to read a full conversations but I didn’t try too hard to figure it out, but I shouldn’t have to put too much effort in to figure out something which should be simple to comprehend, IE, leave a comment, reply to a comment, look at comments. But anyway…
Jaiku were snapped up by Google a few months go and consequently moved to an invitation only network. I have a few Jaiku invites to spare, so if you want one let me know.
Ciaran...

I spent more than fifteen frustrating minutes trying to create a sale item on Ebay this evening. Their forms are just ridiculous. Just when I thought my experience couldn’t get any worse, I get this illegible error message in Firefox.
Thanks for letting me know that something was wrong with something I had done....

Full details of the competition are on the Glengarriff Lodge blog
All you have to is write a blog post which has a link like this in it: Luxury Self Catering
The post must also link to another blog, a friend who you think might be interested in the competition.
Go to the competition blog post and leave a comment letting them know where your entry is, and you’re done.
Easy peasy.
Full disclosure and all that: As part of my dayjob I had a hand in organising the competition....

I got a few messages from a couple of confused subscribers to my blog. They each spotted a post called ‘test video’ which appeared within their readers but disappeared from my blog just as quickly as it was published. As you can guess by the title of the post, I was testing out some video functionality with Youtube’s embed video feature.
I wanted to find out what happens when an attempt is made to embed video which has been flagged as being over 18s on Youtube.
Youtube requires you to login to view videos which may be obscene:
This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community. To view this video or group, please verify you are 18 or older by logging in or signing up.
Since anybody can copy the...

I love Pizza. It is all the different nutrients in one convenient meal. Pizza is convenient. I was meeting Ol after college yesterday and cause it was late, my choices of food was limited to a chinese or pizza.
Usually I would go to Blackpool and get a Dominos Pizza take-away but couldnt be arsed driving all the way out and getting reemed for something that should cost half the price. The staff out there (Mostly Polish) are the rudest you'll find.
I spotted Spar on McCurtain was open so decided to wander in and see what they had in the line of Pizza. Nothing much really except for one I wasnt familiar with. The Alternative Pizza Company - Spicy Pepperoni. Bingo. I like pepperoni!
Shit. Will this be some over priced organic muck? i'll chance it. Too hungry to think. Will I get 2? The...

I wonder if the traditional increase in post this time of year has caused PC World’s payment to get lost in the post?

I’m in the market for a design tablet for use with my Mac. I did a bit of research by searching for discussions on tablets on a few design forums. The manufacturer name which kept cropping up was Wacom.
Wacom seem to be the market leader for tablets for both Mac and Windows. They have a large supply of both entry level and advanced tablets.
One of their entry level products, Bamboo, uses the tagline ‘uniquely intuitive’ to describe itself. Unfortunately the webpage which boosts and houses this statement is far from intuitive.
The minute I landed on the above page I said ‘WTF is this?’. To get to this page I clicked on a link from a ‘Products’ drop down list. I was expecting to be brought to a page full of information on the Bamboo product....

BBC.co.uk, probably the best website on the interweb, has a revamped beta home page for all to view over here.
The burgundy and grey interface is an improvement on an already beautifully simple design for their current homepage. The beta page has an AJAX drag and drop interface and the content is fully customisable. Don’t want to see the sport headlines? Delete it. Want to see the History stuff instead? Add it.
After my initial amazement at the Beeb’s new AJAX-y design, I stopped and thought - “What about the millions of old folk who visit this site with JS disabled?’ Don’t fear! The page handles perfectly fine with JS disabled!...

Today we launched the third release of our website. Ammado is a community of nonprofit organisations and socially responsible individuals.
A lot of the UI (user interface) has changed with this release. And of course a few new features are making their first appearances…. status messaging, photo album galleries, photo tagging, etc…
If you would like an invite, just leave a comment below and I will send one onto you ASAP....

Is it just me or does looking at a website full of gradients, reflections, glares and diagonal lines tire out your eyes as well?
I get wreck tired from looking at web 2.0 designed sites. There is too much activity for my liking. I find myself loosing focus after a couple of seconds if the designer has gone over board.
On a plus point, it’s nice to notice the grunge design becoming more popular....

Moola is a private beta social network with a slight twist.
Their twist is an interactive games gambling application for which the winner ‘doubles up’ against a fellow member using their introductory $0.01 buy in.
Techcrunch explained it best last year when they said:
Moola gives each new user $0.01 to start. You play against another player at your level, and the winner takes all of the money from the other person. So each time you win, you double your money. Win 30 times in a row and win $10.7 million. A user can “cash out” at any time and have a check delivered to them with their current balance. If you lose, you start over at $0.01.
The games look quite simple and intuitive. The only one I have played so far is a High/Lo card game. Between each round of games, ads...
