Abandoned Dingle Trawler via In Photos dot org November 19th, 2009 at 08:01

image Right on the pier in Dingle are two trawlers that are slowly falling to pieces. The one pictured above is severely burned, windows burned out and broken. Moss grows on the deck amid the rubbish. I can’t believe it’s still there. It was there last year when we visited, and may even have been there the time before that! image We called into Murphy’s Ice Cream in Dingle this morning. I bought a chocolate and mint ice cream mix. If you’re in the town you really should call in for a scoop or two! Yum! The business is run by brothers Sean and Kieran who I had hoped would be there but unfortunately they were out. I can hardly see myself via In Photos dot org February 28th, 2008 at 20:27

image I can hardly see myself As I said previously, thick fog was rolling across the Conor Pass. It was frightening how fast it moved and the light and scene changed utterly. Here’s it’s obscuring the road down the Pass, making the too-narrow road even more treacherous. I think by the time we left, even this stretch of road and the car park was covered in a thick white fog. Don’t forget! If you’re around Cork on March 9th, head to the Lough for 3pm. I’m planning a photowalk around The Lough and all are welcome! Clouds over the Conor Pass via In Photos dot org February 26th, 2008 at 22:51

image Clouds over the Conor Pass I’m loath to post photos from the same location day after day but I may as well call this “Conor Pass Week” and get the rest of them out of the dark where they’ve languished since 2006. After the reaction to yesterday’s Conor Pass photo hopefully you’ll like this one too. I have another 2 or 3 taken at the same time. The day was perfect for photography, the light was strong and to the side, there was an interesting sky and of course the scenery is beautiful. That was a very successful trip! Dingle via In Photos dot org October 18th, 2007 at 14:24

image Dingle The town of Dingle, or “An Daingean” as it’s officially known as now. The name change has upset many local people who mourn the loss of their identity and fear that the brand recognition of the name Dingle will be lost on (mostly American) tourists who flock here through out the summer. The 2005 Placenames Order changed the name and it’s an utterly silly law. Yes the town is in an Gaeltacht, the Irish speaking part of the country. Yes, more people (hopefully?) speak Irish in those parts than in others, but a region does not survive on it’s own without interaction with non-Irish speaking people. I’m all in favour of An Gaeilge but this law is wrong. Luckily, locals have stencilled the word “Dingle” back onto most signage but they...

All Aborad! Next Bus To Tralee In 5 Mins via Ach go háirithe October 16th, 2007 at 21:58

image Locals burning their English-Irish Dictionaries I flagged this yonks ago as being a possible flash point, and true to form the plebes in Dingle are again revolting! This time they seem to think their kids will be at a disadvantage as the only secondary education available in the town is the all Irish Pobal Scoil Chorca Dhuibhne. Muppets! One solution to the impasse may be if they load their fat fucking kids into buses and ship them into Tralee for a good English education. Failing that, maybe we should consider cutting Dingle out of the Gaeltacht all together. Back from Dingle via Holy Shmoly! September 29th, 2007 at 23:08

image Oh wow! We really have a beautiful country here in Ireland! We are just back from a week in the town of Dingle, Co. Kerry (or An Daingean as it’s officially known, why can’t they have both English and Irish names on the signs? It’s silly. Locals stencilled “Dingle” on many of the signs anyway!) and it was both amazing and refreshing. 7 days without Internet access. Could you survive? I admit I was tempted by the local net cafe but I resisted and we wandered the roads and explored the beaches of that rugged coastline instead. Weather is always a concern in Ireland and it rained and it poured and gales blew for the first 2 days of our stay. Thankfully that completely changed for most of the remainder of the week and the blue skies were filled with white fluffy...

We love Irish we do… via Ach go háirithe August 8th, 2007 at 15:39

image …but if we want our kids to be taught through the medium of English we’ll bloody well have our kids taught through the medium of English!! For fawk sake the Dingle Dangle brigade strikes again. This time some of the local plebs are up in arms about the decision to, shock of shocks, teach through Irish in an Irish speaking school! This has only come to light with the decision to amalgamate two of the larger schools in Dingle town into one gargantuan Irish speaking school bent on the destruction of all other world languages beginning with English of course and then moving on to Polish, Russian, Latvian, etc. (that last bit may be inaccurate) Having blown up on Joe Duffy’s Live Line today I’m sure this issue will exercise the language haters among us and bring the...
