An (ancient?) Mini, one of the older British design, not the new fangled BMW ones that are as big as a Yaris, and of course a pussy cat watching me carefully.
This was shot near Shandon Bells after we braved the heights of the tower to shoot the City of Cork. Now take your minds out of the gutter.
I really must upload some of that day’s shoots to Pixie!

A bicycle tied to a post on Patrick’s Street, Cork late last November.
I’m heading to London later today for my brother Donal’s stag. Yes yes, wild weekend, etc etc. I’ll have my camera too of course and I’m staying next to King’s Cross Railway Station so I thought it would be great to go photograph the area. Unfortunately it seems that photography in railway stations and the undergroundrequires a permit. In fact, photography in the UK has become a lot riskier in recent years unfortunately:

A modified car is pushed down Pana by the driver’s friends and a helpful passerby. When the engine finally coughed into life the oversize exhaust pipe emitted a very loud roar and his friends jumped in and sped off.
My wife Jacinta passed her driving test today. She drove us to the test center in Wilton, and even though I did my test years ago I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I think everyone who steps inside that single story building probably feels the same.
Remember your driving test? I remember a bus broke down right in front of me that I had to overtake. When I was asked to reverse around a corner a learner driver appeared and proceeded to reverse around the same corner. Twice!
After the second go, my tester urged me, “Quick, get around the corner before he comes...
I’d vote for the husky.
BarCamp Cork II was brilliant. I got my talk on WordPress and AJAX over and done with early on in the day, mingled, fixed @icedcoffee’s Tweet Tweet plugin and updated the Tweet Tweet plugin to support Twitter notification via O2 Ireland’s free webtexts. Rain has been pouring out of the heavens all day with little break. Here’s my neighbour’s car shot through the windscreen of my car this evening. Just back from acupuncture, need to shoot something not sharp to counter the needles I watched being put into my feet and hands, never mind the ones I didn’t see go into my neck, arms, hands, back and legs previously. at least 26 in all. Feel sluggish now.
Phil has amazing rain photos from a few days ago, too tired to link right now, sorry!

A Volkswagen Beetle in Blarney reminds me that not everyone has bought a shiny new car. It even has the old style number plates. Does anyone know what year and county “WFI” relates to?
I love how this image is framed by the old fence. B&W works particularly well because of the timeless nature of the subject.
If you know Blarney, this was shot from the car park of Blarney Castle and I posted a shot of the other side of this building in my Emerald House B&B post a while back.
PS. New theme, what do you think?

A car lies wrecked, burned out and upside down on the beach near the cemetery in Iniscarra where I shot a few “infra red” photos back in 2004. Is this what faces the world when the oil runs out? Abandoned cars and other vehicles left to rot and ruin scenic areas?
I drove past a week ago and it’s still there. Awful eyesore. Maybe I should ring the County Council?

The Lord Mayor’s car
Each year the Lord Mayor of Cork is given a top of the range Ford car to drive. It’s always the first car registered in the new year, hence the XX-C-1 number plate.
Unfortunately for the Lord Mayor, they have to give it back when their annual term is over. Such a car is now in the possession of a taxi driver in Blarney so at least it’s still serving the public ..

St. Anne’s Church
The Shandon bell tower of St. Anne’s Church is one of the most recognisable sights around Cork. Here it is viewed from the end of Academy Street by Patrick’s Street.

I should blog this at Shite Drivers but this was too good to give up. Sorry Niall!
What you don’t see is the old SUV (probably new when such vehicles were called 4×4s) that swerved across the road in front of me to block 3 parked cars. The elderly driver waited in the vehicle all the time I was walking about there. I parked across the road by AIB because of the stellar parking of the car above. Good thing most of the tourists are gone home now!

Expired Meter
An expired meter I spotted while we waited for a table to become free in a restaurant in San Francisco a few blocks from Union Square.
Photo has been "cross processed" using the Curves tool. I created an S curve on the red and green channels, and then applied a lomo plugin for good effect!

Shoe Shopping
Off to the shops? Looks like these ladies, young and slightly older, have been busy already in “Shoe Zone” and other stores doing some shoe shopping. Mum looks a bit stressed, but daughter is off in her own world and probably enjoying the day!

Yellow Boxes
Yellow boxes on the junction of Bridge Street and Patrick’s Bridge in Cork. It’s illegal to enter a yellow box if you can’t exit as has happened with a few cars here.
This image was entered in the Patterns Around Us competition along with my Autumn Leaf but this was my favourite one because of the strong colours and unusual contrasting effect.
How I did this: take an ordinary photo and clean it up, fixing levels and all the usual things. Duplicate layer, then play around with the top layer and the curves tool, creating a curve with two waves. You’ll see unusual rainbow hues and the colours will be distorted in other ways too. Now, change the mode of the layer. Each mode will make the image look different, but I settled on “Grain Merge”...
